- SuperMac Introduces Digital-Video Product Family for the Macintosh
-
- Digital Video Products Are the First to Support Apple Computer’s
- QuickTime
-
- BEVERLY HILLS, Ca - (June 3, 1991) - SuperMac Technology™ today
- announced a family of QuickTime™-compatibile digital-video products
- for movie making on the Macintosh®. It is the first technology
- developed to take advantage of QuickTime, Apple Computer's newly
- announced media-integration system.
-
- SuperMac said the three products introduced today are the first in a
- family of digital-video products the company will introduce in 1991.
- All products will ship in September 1991. They include:
-
- • VideoSpigot™ - a digital-video capture-and-playback system for the
- Macintosh LC and IIsi
-
- • VideoSpigot Pro - VideoSpigot with accelerated 8- and 24-bit
- graphics support and digital-video on large-screen displays for
- the Macintosh IIsi
-
- • ReelTime™ - digital movie-editing software
-
- VideoSpigot
-
- VideoSpigot is the first digital system for capturing and playing
- full-motion video in real time on the Macintosh LC and IIsi. Unlike
- other products, the VideoSpigot turns video into fully digital data so
- it can be stored on an ordinary hard disk or optical cartridge.
-
- The suggested U.S. retail price for each card is $499, designed to
- make digital-video affordable to everyone with a Macintosh. With that
- in mind, the company also announced it is providing initial purchasers
- of VideoSpigot a free copy of its ReelTime digital video editing
- software - a $699 value.
-
- VideoSpigot Pro
-
- VideoSpigot Pro is the first digital system for capturing and playing
- video on large-screen Macintosh displays up to 21 inches. It is the
- only solution available for displaying 24-bit digital video on the
- Macintosh IIsi.
-
- In one slot, the VideoSpigot Pro provides everything the color
- graphics user needs: a digital video frame grabber for making
- QuickTime movies; and for color publishing applications, 8-bit,
- large-screen (19", 21") and 24-bit, small-screen (12", 13") color
- graphics with the industry's fastest QuickDraw acceleration.
-
- U.S. suggested retail price is $1,899.
-
- ReelTime
-
- ReelTime is the industry's first digital-video editor designed to
- work with QuickTime. ReelTime provides complete digital-video and
- audio editing capabilities with a broad range of plug-in digital
- effects and transitions. Movies can be viewed on the Macintosh or
- exported in NTSC or PAL formats with appropriate video cards.
-
- ReelTime is bundled free with VideoSpigot products for a limited
- time.
-
- Technology Breakthroughs
-
- Digital image compression is a technology that substantially reduces
- the size of an image while still preserving image quality. Applied to
- video images, it enables a minute of digital video data to be reduced
- from approximately 1700 Mb to less than 85 Mb of storage space, a size
- that can be manipulated on a Macintosh.
-
- Apple's QuickTime defines a standard applications interface and
- command set for media integration. As a result, video can be easily
- manipulated as a data type, such as text and graphics, and shared
- across multiple Macintosh applications.
-
- SuperMac combines its breakthrough digital-video compression
- technology with QuickTime into a family of products, which now makes
- working with full-motion video as easy as working with text and
- graphics.
-
- SuperMac designs products that accelerate or enhance the performance
- of Apple's system software standards. The company is a leading
- supplier of graphics peripherals to the Macintosh color
- desktop-publishing, color prepress, and digital video markets.
- SuperMac's products have received numerous editorial awards for
- quality and innovation, including the National Software Testing
- Laboratory's designation as best large-screen Macintosh display system
- in April 1991. Its product lines include color graphics cards; 16",
- 19", and 21" color displays; graphics storage devices; image
- compression products; and digital video solutions.
